Grow Your Own Through the Seasons at Kilgraney House
We have planned a series of six workshops for Kilgraney this year. Aimed at beginners and using organic principles, participants will be covering all aspects of growing vegetables.
Early Spring – Introductory talk and walk around the garden with advice on planning and setting up a vegetable garden, crop rotation, soil requirements for different vegetables and soil conditioning.
Mid Spring – Spring tasks will include ground preparation; looking at seed, sets and tubers, seed selection and storage; conditions for successful germination, sowing (indoors and outdoors) and care of seedlings.
Late Spring – More spring tasks with advice on transplanting, organic fertilising and composting.
Early Summer – A look at summer tasks and growing of tomatoes, vegetables and fruits under cover.
Mid Summer – Weed, pests and disease control – how to recognise threats and how to treat them organically.
Late Summer – Harvesting – when, how, freezing, picking, preserving, etc. Finishing with Autumn tasks and preparations for the next growing season.
The cost of each is €25.00 or if you book all six at the same time, there will be a special offer of six for the price of five. To secure a place please contact Kilgraney directly, but don’t delay as places are limited.
“I did an entry level gardening course with Dee a couple of years ago and couldn’t recommend her course enough. She knows anything there is to know about vegetable growing, is very free with her knowledge. Dee genuinely loves what she does and her enthusiasm is infectious. Her class was fabulous, engaging, fun and brimming with useful tips and hints. It truly takes the mystery out of growing your own.” S. Jordan, Carlow
